More Mini Svord Peasants :)

Well here we go again :)

I had another Mini to make so decided that it was as easy to make a couple at the same time.

Two are of Wych Elm as before. I love the contrasting colour in the grain from this piece. However I also picked up some Buffalo horn recently. So though, that may look nice. It was not an easy material to work and to clean up to polish, but I have to say I like the results.

Mini Svord Peasants

After the Svord Peasant, myself and a friend were chatting about the Mini as a better pocket knife. Both are classed as UK legal as they are none locking and under the 3" blade limit. However the Mini is a little more compact and slimmer to carry.
Unfortunately it comes with plastic handles, so was open to carry out the modification of re handeling as before.
Well here it is :)

They are handled in Wych Elm, with a Beech spacer and 4mm brass pins.

Net Needle Monthly Build Along

A thread was started on BCUK to have a go at a net needle.

http://www.bushcraftuk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=106941

So I though I would have a go and test out my Mark Hill knife.

An oak log split for the job

The split half thinned down to a board. I tried to us a section with the grain running as parallel as
possible for strength. The HillBill knife cut really well.

Bit more thinning and the rough shape sorted.

And the finished item. The HillBill knife performed really well and the oak was still a little
green so was much easier to work. Nice build along project. Lets hope for many more :)

Svord peasant knife

A friend kindly gave me a Svord Peasant knife blade and the pivot screws from the knife too. I'd wanted to try this knife out as the design appealed but I wanted to make my own version as the plastic handle did not appeal so much.

Hears my attempt

My design

Scales cut and all put together. I'm using maple for this and was able to book match this.

Rough sanding to a shape I like. Starting to take shape.

Smoothed out. Not perfect but for a first attempt I like it.

I stained this knife as I felt the light colour did not go with the blade. It's a nice little knife. Just needs a sheath now

So here it is started. Was a work in progress so no design, just winging it

And the finished item. It was a good little project and one I would recommend others to try.

Thanks for reading :)
